Epic Cloud Formations

Over the past few weeks we have had some wild weather which has seen some amazing cloud formations! I managed to capture a few on my phone one of which was yesterday after a huge downpour here in Lowestoft.

This epic cloud formation I saw at the side of the motorway. A heavy downpour can be seen underneath with a few flat level clouds and then an explosion of hazey cloud.

This one I caught yesterday. After travelling in a heavy downpour the storm moved out to sea where there was some amazing formations and even possibly a waterspout but it was too far out at sea to confirm! This part of the formation however, has a bumpy bobbly effect beneath. These are known as Mammatus cloud formations, blobs of falling air as part of a stormy cumulonimbus clouds. They are rare and their formation is highly hypothesized.

I found these two pictures on the BBC weather website of the same cloud formation! It seems other people thought it was a rare and epic sight.
