A Welsh adventure

So over the last few days I have been down in South Wales!!! I have been down there doing field work for my job collecting soil cores but its been a really great time! We were put up in accommodation in a very posh centre-parks like place called "Bluestone" with water park, activities, pubs, restaurants and big log cabins! The company paid and it was actually a really good deal, being relatively cheap and getting free breakfast, free pool use and a free activity!

So the travelling was probably the worst bit, because it seemed to take yonks driving over from the North West to South Wales, 5-6hrs in fact! On the way, we took the shoter but slightly slower route across the beautiful mountains. Saw where I would be white water rafting shortly, saw the cosy little villages and pubs and even had a bison burger from a bison farm with actual bison's in the field! And it was megayum. Then we carried on getting stuck in roadworks and by this:

This tanker ended up getting stuck at roadworks and we all had to reverse half way down the mountain pass so that it was just (only just) wide enough for another tanker to pass, followed by another lorry, then a mini bus, numerous cars, a large bus and another two lorries! They all came at once! That was a good 20 minutes...but good views:

We arrived to Bluestone, which had its own toll-like drive through reception to get your key and a car park in which you had to get out and the only transport around the village was bikes or golf buggies!
Our Log Cabin was like this:

Proper modern and posh inside with everything you need! Definitely one of the nicest place we have been put up for field work.
So the village complex was pretty huge, had a couple of pubs in the centre, shops a spa and restaurants. They even had a hoe down on a Saturday night and Carribean Beach Party up at the waterpark!

There was lots of activities, raft building, kayaking, high ropes course, loads for the kiddies and this tournament field, with archery, clay pigeon, crossbow and catapults!

Down at steep ravine the high ropes course was dangling above in the trees with this huge bar/restaurant below, it looked like something from the movies! Wasn't open like but in summer I'm sure it would be great with the river running beneath and people above doing the high ropes.

We chose our free activity to be outdoor laser quest!!! Paintball without the paint as they kept saying, it was actually pretty good, only a small group but only a small field and enough people to shoot and many of the usual capture the flag type games were played. The guns were huge and even had a scope, they made sounds of your gun firing and you had to reload. When you got shot it would make the sound of someone getting shot..... and then after 10 shots you were down and out.
Our team kicked ass.

So the accommodation was great! But to prove I did actually work whilst I was down there I took a picture of our metre core being jacked out of the ground in the Miscanthus field. At this point the equipment was stuck due to the gravelly soil at depth. The yellow machine on the ground is Kevin essentially a road breaker type machine but used to hammer in the cores. This contraption once set up lifts the core out of the ground by pulling the levers up and down..... unless they are stuck. In this field we had to have two of us hold on to each pole with our legs wrapped around the pole and had to thrust and bounce at the same time so that enough weight was on to pull up the core. Most of the time it is much easier and there is no need for the exhausting manoeuvres and dropping to the ground. All fun though. Kevin did misbehave however and didn't start up some times, we managed to fix him however and the arable, grass and willow fields were all cored up! We had to watch for a huge gas pipe that went under this field however, after only realising with warning poles and the farmer forgetting to tell us! The willow field was very very brambly and thorny!

So that's my week in the field down in South Wales it was fun and I look forward to the next adventure. Fieldwork is Fun!

The Winter of 2012/13

So its the end of February today which marks an end of winter in meteorological terms, but how different was this winter to our average winter months? Well this month it was slightly colder and slightly wetter than average but on the whole it was not a significantly different from average. December was mild with numerous weather systems ploughing into the UK which caused numerous floods across many parts of the UK resulting from the wet year. From mid January it became colder and drier with some significant snowfall. The Lowest temperatures reaching -13.6C at Buntingford on Jan 16th and the highest at Hawarden on Jan 29th with 14.5C. High pressure covered the UK across the majority of February meaning it has been rather cold and dry, infact February being drier than average. The winter has also been slightly duller than average and 0.4C lower than average. There has been periods of significant snowfall also, with many parts of the UK seeing a covering at some stage and with the MetOffice releasing its first Red Warning for Snow in a part of Wales. Yet overall, the winter has been relatively average but with some events which have been a little more wilder. Yet who knows if winter has actually ended yet, last year there was snow in March/April time.

Lightfields

Tonight on itv at 9pm is a new drama called Lightfields. Its a follow up to a previous drama called Marchlands which was shown in February 2011 on the same channel.

Marchlands was a five part supernatural drama telling the story of 3 families living in the same house at three different time periods: 1968, 1987 and 2010. The three families are linked by the spirit of a young girl who dies mysteriously in 1968. It looked at how the three families were similar and their connections. The trailer feature of which is below:

Lightfields has the same theme with 3 families living in the same house at different time periods: 1944, 1976 and 2013. They too are linked by a spirit and are affected by mysterious circumstances and events. This too is a five-part drama. The last series was really good and in places quite spooky, the acting was great and the twisting and turning storyline always kept you guessing. The familiar faces too were good to see in a supernatural show and this series there are too some familiar faces.

So tonight at 9pm on itv - Lightfields - MUST SEE - Trailer Follows:

Remember This...?

This week's remember this goes all the way back to 2002!! This song "All The Things She Said" was a huge pop rock hit in this year with 5 million copies sold worldwide. The song was in high demand in the UK and had to be re-released in early 2003 and went straight in at numero uno. Staying there for four weeks.
Still don't remember? Well the video contained scenes of almost soft porn, reaching the most sexy video of FHM Music TV. In the United Kingdom, television presenters Richard and Judy campaigned to have the video banned from television, claiming it pandered to paedophiles with the use of school uniforms and young girls kissing. And the final thing is that it was sang by a Russian Duo called t.A.T.u

and here it is...

I'll never be LOST again

Okay, so it's about time I did a blog on my favourite thing ever, the amazing, magical and groundbreaking TV show LOST. I'm not going to go into talking about the show itself or about my views on the show and I'll leave that for another blog in the future. You can expect many LOST related blogs. Anyways I am doing this blog because the other day whilst browsing youtube I came across this old LOST fan video that The InJustice League had made just before the final episodes. It is really clever and is actually a rap about LOST using the LOST soundtrack which is amazing. It perfectly describes what us fans would miss when LOST finished and was definitely true. It has been almost 3 years since it ended and I still think about the show all the time, it has made a huge impact on me and my view on life, something a TV show finds so hard to do! But LOST managed it and it will always be my favourite show. The lyrics are so clever and make a lot of sense....

now when that day finally comes and that screen goes black,
I'll be like "Lost ain't over, mane, we gotta go back"
and when it's finally done nothing can fill in that gap
come on now 'Lost' aint over, mane, we gotta go back
it's so strange, I think back and let time extend
season 6, and I just can't believe it's the end
it's just a show, but it feels like losing a friend
life goes on, but I'll never be Lost again.
I know I'll never be lost again.

Its Just a show but it feels like losing a friend - certainly correct

Django Unchained: Bag Men

So last weekend I went to see this film, Django Unchained and I thought it was really good film. I haven't really seen many of Quentin Tarantino films but had an idea of the style of the films and the amount of gore that was probably going to be in it and I was right!

The film stars Jamie Foxx, Chris Waltz, Samuel L Jackson and Leonardo DiCaprio and follows a freed slave and treks across the US with a bounty hunter to rescue his wife from a cruel plantation owner.

The film has won many awards including a Golden Globe and a BAFTA for best supporting actor (Chris Waltz) and a Golden Globe and BAFTA for best original screenplay. It is also nominated for 5 Academy Awards and tonight's Oscars.

The thing I liked the most about this movie was the soundtrack and with the high volume of the cinema, the songs sounded amazing. This being my fave.

But one of my favourite parts of the film was this hilarious bit where a Big Daddy and his henchman are going to capture and kill Django. However, they seem to be having problems with their ill fitting bad.

I could watch them arguing over these bags for hours hahaha especially with their deep south accents.
Anyways Django is a great film and a must see!

Siberian Permafrost in significant risk of thawing

Evidence from Siberian caves has suggested that a global temperature of 1.5C could see the huge areas of permafrost across Siberia, thaw with devastating effects. Within the permafrost it is thought there are over a trillion tonnes of CO2
and Methane which could be released into the atmosphere from the thaw.

The permafrost, where the ground becomes entirely frozen, permanently in layers which can be tens to hundreds of metres thick has been studied by a team of scientists, who have looking at speleotherms (Stalactites and Stalagmites) in caves along the frontiers of the permafrost. These speleotherms measure changes in temperatures as they only grow when there is liquid water within the caves and have recorded 500,000 years of changing permafrost and temperatures. Records show that changes in temperatures of 1.5C previously have seen significant permafrost melting.

Dr Anton Vaks from Oxford University states:
"As permafrost covers 24% of the land surface of the Northern Hemisphere, significant thawing could affect vast areas and release (billions of tonnes) of carbon. This has huge implications for ecosystems in the region, and for aspects of the human environment. For instance, natural gas facilities in the region, as well as power lines, roads, railways and buildings are all built on permafrost and are vulnerable to thawing. Such a thaw could damage this infrastructure with obvious economic implications." Showing that this has significant local problems as well as global problems with greenhouse gases.

It is a significant problem globally with increasing temperatures comes increasing melting of permafrost and ice caps. The permafrost holds trillions of tonnes of greenhouse gases which would further ice melt and temperature increase and the melting of ice caps reduces the albedo (the reflectivity of an object) which means that energy from the sun will have less area to be reflected back into space and be absorbed increasing global warming. This is a positive feedback system.

It's the weekend!!!!!

Finally!! This week seems to have been a weird one, it has gone quite quick but then again feels like ages ago since the start of the week. But here we are, works done for the week and now its time for a fun filled weekend which will probably fly by in the blink of an eye, or in my case a relatively sore eye....yes still.

So what have you got planned? Anything exciting? I have some friends coming up and we are all gonna have a big reunion with old course mates and a hugeee night out! The parents and brother and hopefully dog will be coming up Sunday which will be good as I can see how my brothers trip to Africa was! And I miss my dog lots....

Is your weekend as eventful is it just going to be nice and chilled out, which is what I really need as its been non stop for the last few months.

Also this weekend see's the return of Ant and Dec's Saturday night takeaway!!! Yaay, one of mine and probably many others fave shows! Lets hope its as good as the older ones.

So as its literally just turned weekend what song is the best song to put you in the mood for the weekend?

Is it Rebecca Black's "Friday"? Calvin Harris' "Ready For the Weekend"?
Katy Perry's "TGIF"?

Mine at current is this one, I'm not sure what it is but it gets me really excited that it's weekend and puts me in a mood to go out and party!

It's Porter Robinson with Language :)

Well whatever you end up doing, have a good 'un!

The PS4

Okay so last night it was the long awaited announcement from Sony on the PS4!! Over several hours they announced the features for the latest console and told us about improved gameplay and graphics along with numerous other game changing features and never before seen interaction and connectivity.
However, the console itself and its price have not yet been revealed but a release date of "Holiday 2013" has been announced. The console packs a whole load of memory with 8GB of GDDR5 memory and the new pictures of the new controller has been released.. and here it is:

the controller
The PS4 controller comes in the form of the DualShock 4 pad. It has the usual classic design but has upgraded vibrations and motion sensors along with a touchpad on the front. There is also a headphone jack and a special light bar on the back of the controller. But more importantly they have added a "Share" button which is one of the major new features with the PS4.

 the social connections
The share button allows you to share the footage of you playing the game which will improve the screenshots that have been mainly used. The share button also allows you to stream live your attempt at a game so that your online friends can watch you play your game if you wish. They can also comment on your gaming and give you tips and if necessary you can allow them to take over if you get stuck at a certain point of the game.

the interaction
The light bar is supposed to be connected to the new Sony cameras (1280 x 800 pixels) which can cut out the image of a player from the background and can differentiate between different players in the background and foreground enhancing game play handily. There is also mention of using facial recognition to log in and the use of voice and body movements to improve interaction.

the waiting times
The PS4 will have almost no loading screens and is said to have an instant on-off feature allowing you to shut down your console during a game and then when booting back up it will do so in seconds and you can continue where you left your game. There will also be no more of having to eagerly await to download your new game. They can start playing as the game downloads in the background without waiting for it to be completed.

the downloads
Sony had suggested that there may be an option of streaming games from PS One classics right through to PS3 Platinum Editions along with all new PS4 games of which are just downloaded with no disk. The system will also learn your likes and dislikes and give you content that is more suited to you.

the connectivity
Another main development is that the PS4 will launch with the ability to stream your games directly to your handeld PS Vita and other "Sony Devices" so you can be playing your game on your TV and then continue on your Vita as you move away from the TV. This is what Sony are doing to combat the tablet apps and games whilst on the move.

the games
There was also the announcement of a whole batch of new games and returning classics. However, no mention on GTA V and whether it will be released as a PS4 version.

The PS4 announcement has been received relatively positively but the lack of detail and images of the console itself are in popular demand!

I am soooo looking forward to hearing more information and cannot wait for "Holiday 2013"

Remember this ...?

Okayy so its time for this weeks "Remember this ...?" and this week we look back to 2010 just three years ago! Its the first single from Iyaz called "Replay" and was a huge song over the summer and was one of my favourite tunes around this time, reminding me lots of nights out at university in first year!
The song reached number 1 in the UK and stayed there for two weeks and sold hundreds of thousands of copies!

He had a handful of other singles and an album but has been pretty quiet since!

The funniest thing about this song is that I misheard the lyrics to the song as many people do and sang "Got my eyeballs stuck on replay" in stead of "Got my Ipod Stuck on replay."
And I still do it now! haha was funny when I found out

So here it is: A blast from the not so long ago past...

An Adventure in the Lakes

Okay, so I have had an amazzziiing weekend made all the better by it being sunny! I went on numerous adventures to Arnside and up to the Lakes and did some walking, cave exploring and also went to the cinema afterwards as well!

So yesterday, being Sunday, I went up to the Lake district and went for a walk up round near Grasmere around near Rydal Water. I visited this place when I was in school in year 7 and walked from Ambleside Youth Hostel, in the pouring rain, all the way to Grasmere and back; only made interesting after visiting the caves near Rydal Water. It was such a great day to go to the Lakes it was sunny, dry and relatively warm. There was also snow still topping the higher mountains which meant the scenery was even more beautiful.

The walk is relatively easy one and you get to visit Rydal Caves, which are huge caves that are easily accessible. Unfortunately, they are man made caves but they are still stunning and the shear size of the larger one is spectacular. Its almost like an amphitheatre inside. It is an enter at your own risk cave however due to rockfalls in 2009 however there are no signs up warning off walkers.
The cave was once a quarry that used to collect slate for the local towns in buildings homes. I being a geologist noticed that the cave could not have been formed naturally being very hard metamorphic rock. The colours of this metamorphic rock in the cave look great in the cave and the small lake which is relatively shallow and doesn't cover the whole of the cave floor bounces off the light fantastically.
If you fancy the walk its in between Grasmere and Ambleside. There is two car parks on either side of the main route and close to the first lake travelling towards Grasmere from Ambleside: Rydal Water.

I also stopped at this little café which was hidden away in the hillside close to the caves and main road. Though expensive I had a spicy tomato soup which was amazing and being inside this old house in front of the log fire was great, even if it did feel like somebody's living room.

I continued along the walk to further spectacular views across the forests, mountains and lakes. Looking towards the higher northern peaks coated in snow.

I then got back to the car and finished the adventure with a pint and this spectacular view across Lake Windemere and watched the sun set slowly.

All in all, a very chilled out weekend! Did not want it to end at all!

Hope you all had a good one!

Black Mirror: White Bear

Okay so tonight is the second episode of the amazing series  BLACK MIRROR - which has a different cast and story in each episode. Many of the episodes depict a dystopian future and have a dark and cold feel. They look at the delights and discomforts to technology, "as if technology was a drug" Charlie Brooker, the creator.

This is actually the second series of Black Mirror, the first had themes which included, being in a future in which the only way you can progress in life is winning talent shows and an episode showing an alternate reality where people had a grain behind their ear which recorded all their life so they could go back and watch.

The first episode of this series looked at ways you could contact someone who has passed away via an online service. The service looks at the way the deceased person spoke on social medias and allows an instant messaging service. It continues further being able to talk to the artificial deceased from uploading sound and video footage. Finally, a synthetic body can be used to mimic this person. I thought this episode was amazingly clever and yet a little disturbing. It seems that it could be so easy to do today with all the technology and uses of social media.

Tonight's episode named "White Bear" looks at the obsession of people filming things on mobile devices and incorporates it into a zombie-like infection. It follows an uninfected survivor who wakes up not knowing what is going on.
See the trailer below:

I think that this is such an amazing show, the way that it is filmed and the topics that Charlie Brooker has chosen to use in this twisting dystopian futures.

Its on tonight 10pm Channel 4, MUST SEE!!

Dream Diary: Coach Crash

Good Morning!!! Dream Diary time. Thought I'd do it before I forgot it:

So I had been somewhere for the day on a coach and we were driving down these small country lanes somewhere near my house and as we turn round the corner we see that there is barriers across the road and a flood. However the coach driver thinks its not that deep and speeds up as he goes down hill. He takes out the barriers completely and comes to where the flood is at which is at the bottom of a small valley where the road turns and goes over a small bridge. The coach driver keeps on speeding up, too fast to take the corner if the road was not flooded. We hit the water and huge waves came off the sides of the coach and we began to slow but the water was too deep and the bus began to float on the water as it continued to travel. We reached the corner and the coach could not turn and we braced ourselves as we knew we were going to come off the flooded road and end up in the flooded river which was more like a lake. We hit the corner and the coach fell forwards and bobbed around and immediately I tried to get out of the coach. I got out the back window and held on for my life as the coach span around and around as it bobbed on the water. There was a small boat at the side of the lake/river and I timed it perfectly jumping from the bus onto the boat. Everybody got off safely and the coach wedged itself against the bridge, but didn't sink. We rang for the emergency services and when they arrived we noticed the water had dropped significantly. We saw that there was a huge wagon which had been carrying a Range Rover that had followed us down the hill and it too was now hanging off the edge of the bridge wedged on top of the two walls. There was also two cars that were stuck in the water. I tapped the side of the wagon and said that if it had fallen off the bridge it would have gone in cab first and killed the driver. As I did the wagon slipped off the edge of the bridge and went cab first into the water. The Range Rover slid off the back of the wagon and crashed to the ground.

oops. And that's about it, all I remember for this one! Random? Yes.

Over a thousand injured in Russian Meteor strike

As we gear up tonight for a close encounter with a significant asteroid the size of half a football pitch which will fly past us closer than some orbiting satellites, footage is emerging from Central Russia and the Ural Mountain District of a Meteo strike!

The footage shows a meteor trailing across the sky with a condensation cloud following. The meteor is thought to have burnt up but a sonic boom followed with over a thousand people being injured from shattering glass as the pressure waves and ground shook.A fireball was seen streaking through the clear morning sky above the city of Yekaterinburg, followed by loud bangs. However, it is reported that a small fragment of meteorite hit an unpopulated region.

The video below shows some of the footage of the meteorite flying across the sky and some other videos show the loud bang which followed. Which strikes me the most is the change in light as the meteor falls to Earth, it brightens the sky so very brightly and on occasions seems to dim the light also!

However, Tonight from 7.30 (now) for a few hours a large asteroid the size of half a football field will graze past the Earth. It will be even closer than some geostationary satellites and is the largest object to be predicted to just miss Earth! For regions in darkness, it should remain visible until about midnight through good binoculars or a telescope. The likelihood of a worldwide disaster if the asteroid did hit is very unlikely, it would likely affect a smaller region but would still cause considerable damage! However, the asteroid is not expected to hit.

The meteorite in Russia is not connected to the larger asteroid and has been claimed to be a cosmic coincidence. Whatever, it sure has been an exciting day for Extra Terrestrial Objects.

A Large Increase in Landslides in the UK

2012 was one of the wettest years on record, as we all know, but a result of this has been a four to five fold increase in landslides and slope failures (man-made slopes.) Over the last few days there has been an ongoing slow moving landslide which could possibly be one of the largest and most significant landslides in the UK possibly for a decade!

The pictures below show the unfolding destructive force of a landslip which is tearing up and deforming railway lines near Doncaster. The reason for this is because of a large spoil heap at the Hatfield Stainforth Coilery which has been deforming over the last few days due to extremely wet material within the structure of the hillside.

The spoil slope sits on Alluvium which is likely to be full of water from a high water table and cannot support the weight of the wet spoil and has formed what seems to be a rotationary landslide in which the land is pushed up at the front as the back of the slope slumps down. This is a very slow moving landslip and has been moving for the last few days and is currently still moving. This picture shows the landslip from the air and you can see the slump and the fractures at the top of the slope where the land has slid from.

There has been many landslides over the last year because of the wet weather. A woman was killed on a beach in Southern England from a rockfall and two people were killed when a landslide crushed their car as they were leaving a tunnel (picture below.) In North East of England numerous landslides saw houses demolished and bones falling down from a church graveyard onto properties below.

There is a significant relationship with wet weather and landslides and there are likely to be many more landslides over the next few months while land is saturated and the water tables are high.

Harlem Shake

So there is a new dance craze sweeping the world!!!! Well I say dance.... its more of a repetitive random movement! The song by Baauer is called Harlem Shake and has charted in the mid week chart this week within the top 25! Its on its way up to! And this is all thanks to the fans! Baauer themselves have not produced a video for this but fans have produced their own videos. The clips only last around thirty seconds and normally starts with someone wearing a helmet dancing and then the bass drops and the whole room goes wild.

This is one of the first fan made films here:

Notice the random repetitive movements including the guy punching a blow up giraffe haha
Yes Very random!

Hundreds or thousands of these videos are being produced everyday and uploaded to youtube. There are many with over 6 million hits!

There is a video taken by some firemen:

hundreds of college students doing videos:

and even some underwater divers:

Hilarious!! and very random. I have seen so many groups and events trying to film new videos as well!

Dream Diary: Fiery Sky

So last night, it was another good night sleep, another too comfy to get out of bed and another amazing dream! So there was a lot happening in this dream but the bit I remember the most and the bit that was the most amazing sight was this section:

So picture the scene - I am standing on a hillside in a field with a few large trees on its perimeter. There are a few farm houses and out buildings nearby and two large bonfires burning. It is late afternoon but still light. I am heading up towards the bonfires where I was to meet with others and camp. As I climbed the hill a cold gust of wind breathed down the back of my neck. I look up to see that everything seemed darker, a large dark cloud had put me within its shadow and the very top of the hill was the only light at the end of this dark mass. It wasn't pitch black but it was as if the sun had just set. The Clouds were moving so fast and the trees were blowing in the wind. The gust of wind dropped and I looked behind me where the clouds were coming from and saw that the clouds were so very dark and ominous. They were also very low and obscured the view of the other side of the valley. They towered above the outhouses and as I looked upwards I could see the cloud was covering the hillside rapidly. I could see that the black clouds were stooping lower and almost hugging the ground and the light dimmed further.
Suddenly a huge gust of wind rushed across the hill. With its hurricane force winds I was almost knocked off my feet. Debris begin to fly of the buildings and the trees blew wildly and looked as if they were holding on for dear life. The wind blew out the two bonfires and there smoke added to the black cloud which then enveloped everything. It engulfed past with the wind but as soon as the wind dropped the cloud passed onwards and the buildings emerged from the black cloud. It was much darker but there was an orange glow on the ground. As I looked upwards the whole sky was filled with fire and lightning. It was as if a huge upturned bowl had been placed above and reached the ground at the cloud wall and reached far above. The lightning flickered constantly with thousands of bolts striking the sky the dark clouds bubbled with an orange hinge and bursts of fire. I was stunned to see the sky so wild. It looked like an apocalypse, maybe it was. I looked across the fields and up into the sky in awe; it was a terrifying yet amazing sight. It was like nothing I had ever seen, it was as if the stars and planets in the sky were having a battle firing bolts of lightning and fire at each other. A constant breeze blew across the field with ash and dust and the sky continued its battle. Though there was no sound, no thunder and no rain. Just a battle of Lightning and Fire.

Then I woke.

Finding Nemo 2!

Okay so I have literally just posted about Pixars Monsters University and today I bring you other great news, a Second Finding Nemo!!!

It was ten years ago (TEN YEARS!!!) since Finding Nemo came out and is one of Pixars best ever films, and one of its most successful raking in £562million at the worldwide box office!

Today Albert Brooks, the voice of "Marlin" the clownfish signed up to reprise his role, with Ellen DeGeneres doing the same soon after as "Dory." The original director is to direct this film also. However, there are no details on what the film will be about but it is set to be released in 2016!

So how can they make another film, are they going to be having to find Nemo again?
I predict that Nemo is going to be a teenager in this film and that it is again all about his dad Marlin letting his son go off to the big wide world!
However, it would be good to show the possibility of the environmental impacts humans are having on the coral reefs and how there are many places around the world that are being degraded. This could be a good plot; in which the three have to find another home or get separated after there homes are destroyed by an oil slick, contaminated waters or rising sea temperatures meaning the coral is dying off.

Seems somebody else has a similar idea of the plot and global issues:

But hey, hopefully its going to be just as good as the first!
