Road collapses during earthquake

A small earthquake in Mexico has seen the coastal highway break up and slide 300ft down the cliff into the sea. There was one cement truck driver on the stretch at the time who was luckily unhurt. The 300 yard section of road slid into the Pacific ocean. Heavy rain and the two small earthquakes are thought to be the cars.

My top 20 tunes of 2013

So 2013 was another great year for music with the return of the huge American stars Eminem, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus. Along with huge hits from Daft Punk, Pharrel Williams and Robin Thicke (though wont be appearing on my list.) British stars did great with One Direction and Little Mix hitting the states and around the world. British talent was at an all time high with hits from Rudimental, Naughty Boy, Calvin Harris, Ellie Goulding and newcomers Bastille and Sam Smith. All doing great in the charts. There has also been a huge amount of talent which hasn't reached the top 40s but are amazing songs. This list comprises my top 20 songs of 2013, with a few that I have probably forgotten about!

20. Arojack - The Spark
This is a pretty recent song and is a great feel good club chart hit!

19. Lawson - Juliet
Not a huge fan of Lawson but this year they have released some good tunes, including this crazy catchy song, which is one of my guilty pleasures of 2013!

18. Capital Cities - Safe and Sound
Now I heard this played a few times on the radio and really liked it. The brass section over the chorus is amazing and really catchy!

17. Foals - My Number
This feels like a very long time ago since this song came out. Out at the very start of the year. This song broke through onto the top 40.

16. Twenty One Pilots - Holding on to you
Another song I am not really sure where I heard it, maybe once or twice on the radio and again just had to buy it. Got such a dramatic build up!

15. Bruno Mars - Treasure
This seems to have been around for ages and has been a fave all year. I wasn't such a huge fan at first but cant get enough of it now and is such a good feel-good song :) gets me grooving!

14. Lady Gaga - Do What U Want
Another guilty pleasure. I wasn't too keen on Lady G's new stuff and wasn't amazed by this one. But after hearing it a few times it is extremely catchy and in my opinion one of her best. I caught a live piano performance on a tv show a while back and it just sounded amazing. Still waiting on her crazy video for it though! which I believe is to be released on the 29th November.

13. Eminem - Berzerk
Eminem returned to the scene this year with some great tunes hitting the top spot every week! With so many different songs in the top 10! This was one of my favourites and I quite like The Monster also.

12. Matt Cardle feat. Mel C  - Loving You
Another guilty pleasure now from an unlikely source. An old x factor winner who was dropped by Simon Cowell had one of his best singles to date joined by Spice Girl Mel C. Such a good song with harmonies so perfect.

11. Chloe Howl - Paper Heart
Now I love this song so much, its been played on the radio a few times but I have seen her perform this live supporting bastille and she was great! Definitely keep an eye out for her next year!

10. One Republic - Counting Stars
Who could not like this epic?! Its definitely one of the songs of 2013!

9. Katy Perry - Roar
What a great single to return with! A feisty pop hit and wooah what a video
drool!

8. Avicii  - Wake Me Up
He has had so many good hits this year! And introduced the country - dance (Farm-House) craze this was definitely his best.

7. Macklemore - Can't Hold Us
He has been one of the best new acts of 2013 with epic songs Thrift Shop, Same Love and this one!

6. Naughty Boy - la la la
Naughty Boy has been great! Sam Smith on the lyrics for this song and another great song by Disclosure has made this one of the best of 2013.

5. Arctic Monkeys - Why'd you only call me when you're high
The return of AM and their epic album was definitely a high of 2013.

4. Bastille - Laura Palmer
My favourite new band Bastille had some great tracks including this great one! So glad it was released as a single!

3. Two Door Cinema Club - Changing of the Seasons
This song should have done so much better in the charts it is a huge tune!! Remixed my Madeon aswell!

2. Sebastian Ingrosso - Reload
My song of 2012 was Sebastian Ingrosso's Calling and this one matched in the awesomeness I cant help but turn it up loud and rave to this!

1. Bastille - Pompeii / Of the Night
Okay so I have two number ones, but they are by the same band and one is a cover. But they are amazing and the song Pompeii was a huge favourite and when I heard the cover Of The Night at the beginning of the year it's great to see it being released and doing so well in the chart! A No.1 and No.2 in the same year! What a year they have had!

Lets see what Next year brings! I think it will be kicked off with Pitbull Vs Kesha Timber!

World Weather 2013

2013 has been in some places a pretty quiet year for weather.
The USA saw very few Hurricanes this season following on from 2012s horrible events which included Hurricane Sandy.

But for other places around the world it has been wild!

Australian Bush fires devastated large areas of land following on from the hottest spring on record . Temperatures reached 2 degrees Celsius above average. It was also very dry with 30% less rainfall in areas and 50% less in Southern Australia. New South Wales saw the dry season start earlier than usual.
Smoke was seen from the forest fires masking the capitals.

Parts of Europe so severe snow storms with parts of the UK seeing the worst snowfall and largest snow drifts recorded. With a severe snowfall event affecting the Channel Islands.

This year we saw the strongest storm ever recorded. Typhoon Haiyan hit the Phillipines causing devastation on the scale of the Boxing Day Tsunami with winds up to 200mph seen.
Thousands of people were killed and areas were affected by a 13ft sea surge.

The monsoon season in India started earlier than usual and saw the fastest advance in 70 years. The weather saw a 1/3 more rainfall over a longer period of time.

The Italian island of Sardinia was hit by a severe storm killing around 20 people with homes and bridges swept away.

A small village in Northern Sweden saw one of the largest changes in temperatures ever recorded. On 3rd December an unseasonably warm 4.7C, though 2 days later the temperature had dropped to a bone-chilling -40.8C but on 10 December it rose again in just a few hours to a balmy 7.7C. The 48.5C rise in under 48 hours is one of the greatest ever recorded.

A strong winter storm has killed many people across Eastern USA and Canada with hundreds of people without power. The vast temperature variance between the two air masses above the US has caused an unusually strong Jet Stream which has been funnelling many strong depressions across to Western Europe. Britain has been hit hard by some strong winds and flooding over the Christmas period.

The worst storm surge in 60 years hit the North Sea. With flooding affecting Eastern coast of England and Western Europe.

Overall it was the 7th warmest year on record. However unusually the Arctic saw nowhere near as much sea ice loss as the exceptional 2012 when all records were broken. The second lowest temperatures ever measured were also measured in July in the centre of Antarctica plateau.

Again it has been a year of ferocious storms, topsy turvy weather and droughts.
With some record breaking weather.

Dream Diary

I haven't done one of these in a while and its likely to be my last of 2013. But last nights dream was a very very long one.

There were sections of the dream in which I remember being on a canal barge, beneath a motorway bridge and using a drain as a toilet..... There was a part where a bridge was being raised for a ship and they replaced the bridge with another one with smashed up cars upon it.

But the main part of the dream was that I had entered some student accommodation on a road in town. I was chatting to friends inside when I looked out the window and saw that a car was careering out of control and hit a lamppost. It then continued and hit two parked cars before men got out and a commotion began. Then another vehicle began driving erratically and crashed also. Next thing I know 3 police vehicles pulled up outside the window. We were on the first floor and could see everything. A man ran out of the car and shots were fired and the police had taken their positions behind their police cars and began firing. The man ran straight into the building into the door just beneath to the left.

We were shocked so I shouted to lock the door and barricade ourselves in. Shots were being fired and I looked out the window to see further police arrive and people running away and out of the building in panic. After about ten minutes, things began to die down. We opened the flat door and looked out, there was nobody about but voices were heard down the stairwell into the lobby. I began looking over the bannister when people came running down the stairs. We rushed into the flat and they told us that there wasn't one but several assailants who had entered the building and were taking people hostage. The building was huge, several stories high and an old mill converted into student flats.

After about half an hour things were quiet and people from other flats on our floor and the floors above had began draining out to see if they could get out of the building. There was a lot of people outside the doorway then suddenly a commotion began and people began running and screaming. Three armed men came up from the lobby and a further three from along the corridor, they shot fires in the air and everyone stood still. They rounded people up and took some down into the lobby and others into flats and other parts of the building. Two people came towards us one with a machine gun and another with some sort of explosive weapon. We were pushed back into the flat the gun pointing at us. Our hands in the air. The men one with a moustache looked foreign but spoke English well. I began asking what was going on and why they were doing this. I was hit and pushed back. They pointed the gun right at me, the sense of fear overcame my body like nothing I had experienced before I was so nervous and frightened. They gave a sharp shout and asked me a few questions, I cant remember what but I remember answering in an American accent scared. They then sharply asked me if I was American to which I thought what the hell was I doing that for and pleaded that I was from the area. Another friend said something which angered them and one man squirted my friend with some flammable liquid he lit a match and threatened to set him alight.

They left and guarded the door. The police outside had retreated far up the street and two old ladies were sitting at the front door with big guns making sure no one came in or out. After a short while everyone began to fight back. We opened the door to find some people fighting and the armed man threw these small white balls which ignited upon impact. One hit a friend and another hit a wall and caught fire. We closed the door again. We needed to get out of the building.

After an hour or so we left the room to empty and quiet corridors. We desperately tried to find a way out. The front door was still blocked. Sneaking around the corridors we came across a few assailants but snook past. In a large room with a large pipes and electricity cables. I noticed about five armed policemen entering the building through one of the pipes. I ran up to where they were arriving. A gunfight began and I pushed through to the entrance of the pipe I squeezed in and ended up crawling in a very tight pipe. I managed to get out of the building.

I don't remember what happened next but think a helicopter was involved of which I crashed and the words GAME OVER came on the screen. I had to do the whole thing again.

24th December

Well it has been an extremely stormy start to the Christmas festivities, with hundreds of people without power after strong winds and heavy rain have caused flooding across the UK. The Christmas getaway has been chaotic with all road, rail and ferry networks affected by the weather.

For me, as I write this, it is actually snowing....not sticking but still. It was a bit of a blizzard this morning but exciting! Looking forward to Christmas day tomorrow. For me I have been home three days and have been very busy, many meals out, seeing friends, been to the cinema twice and lots of drink :)
But that's what Christmas is about :)

Hope you have a great Christmas Eve! Here is one of the classics:

Storms line up for Christmas week

There are some large winter storms lining up across the Atlantic with the British Isles right in their path. The strong Jet Stream is powering the winter storms towards the UK with strong winds and heavy rain. December has already been a stormy month, with the UKs worst storm surge in 60 years hitting coastal areas after a deep low pressure passed over.

Over the next 24 hours another deep low pressure is bringing heavy rain and very strong winds, with gusts up to 80mph across Scotland with strong winds across much of the UK. The Met Office has issued warnings with the Environment agency issuing flood warnings for areas in Scotland.

However, forecasters are worried more about another deepening low pressure system out in the Atlantic which will hit the UK this weekend, with potentially heavier rain and stronger winds. It seems the stormy weather is set to continue into Christmas week, with the chances of a White Christmas being slim. Any chances of snow, come Thursday and this weekend when the deep low pressure has past it brings a brief cold blast which brings with it some snow showers.

Strong winds and storm surges affecting coastal areas earlier this month

December 18th

One more week to go!!!!!!

I have two Christmas singles for you today. The first is from Hurts, who are a English synthpop duo which have had many hit singles and albums and have recently gave their vocals to Calvin Harris' Under Control which reached number one in the UK.

This sounds like a very good Christmas song, chilled out, amazing vocals and jingling bells in the background but the lyrics are quite opposite. "It's about the worst Christmas of our lives, which we're releasing on the best Christmas of our lives," they stated in an interview.

But its worth a listen and isn't that depressing but its a good opportunity to think of those that don't enjoy Christmas, dreading this time of year, whether its problems at home or not having anyone to share it with. Christmas isn't all merry and bright.

If you do feel a tad depressed after that song then this will cheer you up... a classic:

Darkness: Christmas Time

Now this Christmas song has been a little forgotten over the last few years but comes from hilarious comedian Peter Kay and his character Geraldine McQueen.

Geraldine was a star of the fictional talent show "Britains got the Pop Factor... and possibly a new Celebrity Jesus Christ Soapstar Superstar Strictly on Ice" in which she won and released a winners single which was available to download in the real world. The show aired its "final episode" in a hilarious mickey take at the talent shows of today and was watched by millions of people.
The following year Geraldine returned with this hilarious Christmas single:

However the two families are to said to rival each other and cause mayhem.
