EU to ban pesticides to allow the Bee population to recover

They might be horribly annoying, buzzing around your face, getting at your fizzy drinks and food but Bees are actually really important in the pollination in one third of the worlds crop population. They are important drivers in vegetation activity especially when it comes to crops.

Over the last decade or so the population of bees has declined rapidly and scientists have brought evidence to government bodies on their disappearance and importance. The European Commission has began restricting the use of pesticides which are used to kill and deter other insects and pests but which are also affecting the bee population. It is believed that it is the Neonicotinoid chemicals in pesticides which are causing the decline. But crop experts, farmers and some states believe there is not enough evidence to support this. The UK did not back the ban but along with other EU members it will not be able to opt out of the ban if it goes ahead.

Some scientist believe however that the bees are being killed off by a virus and others believe it is the poor up keeping of hives.

Bad Monday? This will cheer you up....

Well would you look at that its Monday again!!!! Wow that week went quick. So its been a bit of a lovely sunny day for most places which I guess meant that it cheered people up a little bit. For me its been a pretty good day, but for those that are feeling a little down this old gem might cheer you up!

It comes from Barely Political a youtube channel with over 10 million views! They make a range of videos the most popular being covers, parodies and spoofs of popular songs part of the "Key Of Awesome" series. This one came around the time of the last Harry Potter film, enjoy...

The Earth's core is far hotter than first thought

Experiments using X-rays to probe tiny samples of iron at extraordinarily high pressures have been undertaken to see how the iron crystals form and melt. These experiments have given indications as to the temperature of which the crystal can form

New measurements suggest the Earth's inner core is far hotter than prior experiments suggested, as hot as the Sun's surface at around 6000C. The scientists used iron samples subjected to the high pressures and high temperatures using a laser, then the X-ray beams carry out "diffraction" - bouncing X-rays off the nuclei of the iron atoms and watching how the pattern changed as the iron changed from solid to liquid. Those diffraction patterns give more insight into partially molten states of iron, which the team believes were what the researchers were measuring in the first experiments. (BBC website)

The centre of the Earth has been previously studied using seismic waves and their velocities through the Earth, it can give a great deal of information on thicknesses and densities of layers within the Earth and give some indications of temperatures along with their liquid of solidified state.

New Monsters University Trailer

Pixar have released a new trailer for its first Prequel: Monsters University and this one gives a better idea behind the plot!

Remember This...? Flobots

This weeks Remember This....? is Flobots and their song Handlebars!

This was the first single from their debut album, charting in the UK at number 14 in 2008.

I can ride my bike with no handlebars
No handlebars
No handlebars
I can ride my bike with no handlebars
No handlebars
No handlebars

Look at me, look at me
Hands in the air like its good to be
Alive and I'm a famous rapper
Even when the paths are all crookedy
I can show you how to dosey doe
I can show you how to scratch a record
I can take apart the remote control
And I can almost put it back together
I can tie a knot in a cherry stem
I can tell you about Leif Ericson
I know all the words to "De Colores"
And "I'm proud to be an American"
Me and my friends saw a platypus
Me and my friends made a comic book
And guess how long it took
I can do anything that I want 'cause look

I can keep rhythm with no metronome
No metronome
No metronome
I can see your face on the telephone
On the telephone
On the telephone

Look at me, look at me
Just called to say that its good to be
Alive in such a small world
I'm all curled up with a book to read
I can make money open up a thrift store
I can make a living off a magazine
I can design an engine
64 miles to the gallon on gasoline
I can make new antibiotics
I can make computer survive aquatic
Conditions I know how to run the business
And I can make you wanna buy a product
Movers shakers and producers
Me and my friends understand the future
I see the strings that control the systems
I can do anything with no resistance 'cause

I can lead a nation with a microphone
With a microphone
With a microphone
And I can split the atoms of a molecule
Of a molecule
Of a molecule

Look at me, look at me
Driving and I won't stop
And it feels so good to be alive and on top
My reach is global
My tower secure
My cause is noble
My power is pure
I can handout a million vaccinations
Or let em all die from exasperation
Have 'em all healed from their lacerations
Or have em all killed by assassination
I can make anybody go to prison
Just because I don't like them
I can do anything with no permission
I have it all under my command because

I can guide a missile by satellite
By satellite
By satellite
And I can hit a target through a telescope
Through a telescope
Through a telescope

And I can end the planet in a holocaust
In a holocaust
In a holocaust
In a holocaust
In a holocaust
In a holocaust

I can ride my bike with no handlebars
No handlebars
No handlebars
I can ride my bike with no handlebars
No handlebars

4DX Cinema experience

Those lucky people in Japan can experience Iron Man 3 in a whole new way when they head down to their cinema. 4DX is a new immersive format using Four dimension effects to enhance your movie experience. The seats can move and vibrate and strobe lighting and bubble machines are all used along with jets of water, changes of humidity, mist, smoke and wind and has over 1000 different smells! It has already been used in a few different cinemas and is made by CJ Group, the company that first developed 4DX, headquartered in South Korea. An extra 12 dollars is the price on top of your ordinary ticket. The CJ Group plan on expanding to US theatres within the next year, but how long will it take to get to UK Cinemas?!

Sandstorms in Scotland

Sandstorm near Forres/Pic: Susan Hindley

This week Scotland has experienced a rare phenomena, somethnig you would expect to see in a hot dry desert, yes a sandstorm!

Strong winds over the past few days have hit parts of Scotland picking up debris, trees, branches and a large amount of dust.

In Moray, gales whipped up sediment from the local beaches reducing visibility. Trees, branches and an advertisement boards were brought down in Glasgow.

Gusts of up to 73mph have been seen across Scotland as deep depressions pass above. In some places large dunes were forming across the road and snowploughs had to be used to clear the route!

But why is it picking up so much debris, well along with the strong winds the land is very dry after little rainfall over the past few months meaning more material to whip up

Thor: The Dark World

This is the latest trailer for the new Thor film named "The Dark World" To be released on October 30th we see Thor battle dark forces of Malekith.

The awesome thing is, is that a lot of the film was filmed here in the UK! With a large part of the film set in London.

Some believe that before the Universe there was nothing. They’re wrong. There was darkness. That has survived.

You must be really desperate, to come to me for help.

An Amazing Google Street View Video

This video is amazing I just had to share. Just think of all that data and millions of photographs that this can be done to. You could virtually travel to your favourite destination in a magical and stunning way.

From a news article from the BBC:

The art that Google Street View built

Hyper-lapse photography - a technique combining time-lapse and sweeping camera movements has been a growing trend on video sites.
It can be a painstaking process taking precision and hours of stitching images together.
As Spencer Kelly discovers, when you take Google Street View and mash it up with a particular photographic technique - this is what you get.

Great Songs that you missed - 1996

The Wombats - 1996

This song was my favourite from the album the Modern Glitch and I really wanted to share it so that more people can here it! It could have been a massive hit.

I had no cares in the 1990s,
I knew of no downfalls,
Though war was breaking out all around me,
My concerns were with prank calls.

She kissed me on the cheek,
She kissed me on the cheek,
Right in front of the older kids,
When our self belief, our self belief,
Wasn't scarred by the modern itch.

'Cause now it feels like,

We kiss with one eye on our T.V. set,
And the more I give, the less I get,
Needing fairground rides just to spark her smile,
There's little here to miss,
Bring back 1996
Bring back 1996,
So hard to beat those teenage kicks,
Bring back 1996.

We were cloning sheep in the 1990s,
We were building telescopes,
And sugar filled the whole of my body,
As I urged it on to grow.

I kissed her on the cheek,
I kissed her on the cheek,
Just to impress the older kids,
But my self belief, my self belief,
Wasn't lost in the modern glitch.

'Cause now it feels like,

We kiss with one eye on our T.V. set,
And the more I give, the less I get,
Needing fairground rides just to spark her smile,
There's little here to miss,
Bring back 1996,
Bring back 1996.

Stop talking, stop talking,
I need a lover, not a friend tonight,
I'm leaving, I'm leaving,
I'm not cut out for the modern life.

I'll never beat those teenage kicks [x3]
Bring back 1996

Movie news: Man of Steel, Godzilla, Iron Man 3, Avengers 2, Monsters University

Man of Steel
This week an epic new trailer was released for the new Superman film. Man of Steel is produced by Christopher Nolan writer of the Dark Knight Trilogy and this looks to be a momentous begin for a new darker, fresher feel for a Superman film. Russel Crowe and Kevin Costner star in this trailer:

Godzilla
Videos online have shown filming of the new Godzilla film, though we haven't seen any images of the big lizard we have seen footage of massive military action around Godzillas destruction. This shows that filming is well underway on Vancouver Island.

Iron Man 3
This week was the British Premiere for Iron Man 3. Due to open in cinemas in the UK on 25th April the film starts off from the end of the Avengers film. Robert Downey Jnr. however has said however, that he is in uncertain on his role as a superhero in the future. Speaking to Sky News he said: "Right now the future is uncertain, but I think it's very important that we end this first Marvel phase in a way that is definitive and has people asking questions."

Avengers 2
Filming for the new Avengers film will begin in February 2014. Joss Whedon also revealed that he has had the plot in mind for quite some time and he believes that the next handful of Marvel films are to be just as good as the first wave. The film is set to open in the UK on May 1 2015.

Monsters University
Artwork for the new Pixar film Monsters University has been released showing the Sorority and Fraternity groups we will be being introduced to in the film and here they are:

Its the Weekend!!! Cosmic Love - Seven Lions Remix

Finally, its weekend, this week sure has dragged and I'm thinking this weekend is going to fly by as usual. So got anything exciting planned for the weekend? Running in the London Marathon? Or just gonna chill out in the sun?

I'm up to allsorts, and am intending to get a little drunk tonight as I'm off out to hit the pubs, bars and clubs. But what is your favourite kind of music? Are you a fan of dubstep?

I quite like a bit of drum and bass, but dubstep was something that I didn't really enjoy but there are a few DJs out there that have some amazing remixes. And not only do they have the dirty dubstep you hear out in the clubs they also have some pretty chilled out tunes.... including this one. It is such a good song originally and its not the usual song which gets the dubstep treatment but this sounds even more amazing. If you aren't really into dubstep or don't really know what it is then just take a listen you might like it, you might get the itch to go out and search for more dub, but enjoy this, chill out, the weekends upon us and its time to relax and chill out

If you had your gun would you shoot it at the sky, why?
To see where it would fall, will you come down at all?

Star Wars Films yearly from 2015

Disney have announced that a new Star Wars film will be released yearly from 2015. The films will alternate between new episodes, with the first being Episode VII, and spinoff character-centric films.
JJ Abrams is writing the first few movies and the first character-centric film is rumoured to be on the Jedi Master, Yoda.

The spinoff films will be written by Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg writers of previous Stars Wars films and other films such as X-Men and the new Sherlock Films.

A lot of fans are worried that Disney are pushing to hard for Star Wars and having so many films would ruin the franchise.

The production of these films so that they are produced yearly will be manic and the fact of producing more than 3 amazing films within this time, they really must have a good idea for the stories.

Remember this...? Love Song

Sara Bareilles: Love Song
It might not seem so long ago since this was on our airwaves but it was 6 years!!! Released in 2007 the song was a huge hit reaching number 4 in the UK charts and 1 in the US. It was around for most of the year.
Sara stated during live performances that it was actually written in response to her record label's request that she write a "marketable love song", rather than about an actual person.

Remains of "Hobbit" like human found on Indonesian Island

Remains of a species of human were found on the Indonesian island of Flores and have been nicknamed "Hobbits" because of their small size. The species could have shrunk as a result of island dwarfism as it adapted to its environment. Studies have shown that the species could possibly be a dwarf version of an early human species. The hobbits co-existed with our species until around 12,000 years ago.

Researchers have stuggled to struggled to explain the origins of these metre-high, tiny-brained people, known scientifically as Homo floresiensis. The remains were discovered in 2003 but only now theories as to how they have adapted have been put forward.

Some believe that the hobbits were restricted in size because of some sort of a disease, others believe it evolved from an ape like creature from Africa but this research suggest that an early human species underwent dwarfism whilst on the island.

A message from Boston Marathon Victim

So Monday night saw two explosions tear through the crowd at the finish line at the Boston Marathon in the US. I wasn't go to talk much about the attacks and so have just shown you this message. A message of peace. This boy was one of the three people killed by Mondays attacks were hundreds of others were injured.

This is Richard Martin,
He was 8 years old,
He was standing at the finish line with his mother and sisters eating ice cream,
His mother suffered serious head injuries and had to have brain surgery,
His little sister lost a leg,
Richard lost his life.

Richard leaves with this message, a poster he made in memory of a black teenager shot dead in Florida.

The other two victims were a Chinese Graduate at Boston University and Krystle Campbell who was 29. It is feared the death toll is going to rise due to the severity of the injuries.

7.8 Magnitude Earthquake in Iran

A powerful Earthquake of Magnitude 7.8 has struck Iran with its epicentre located in the desert away from population centres. However, there was still significant shaking felt at nearby Khash and Saravan. It was the most powerful earthquake for nearly 40 years and the tremor was felt as far away as India, Pakistan and the Middle East.

Official numbers of injuries and deaths are sketchy but it is thought that there would be many and it appears to have killed 30 people in Pakistan.

Iran's Red Crescent said it expected limited damage and a low death toll because the earthquake was so deep at a depth of 95km and that there were no significant populated areas in the worst hit areas. Villages close to the epicentre are only small and people live in tents and mudhuts.

This was the first major earthquake of the year, of which there are normally 2-4.

Peter Jackson to direct Doctor Who?

Doctor Who stars Colin Baker, Sylvestor McCoy and Paul McGann have been discussing with journalists in New Zealand about their desire to see Peter Jackson, the director of The Hobbit and Lord of The Ring Trilogies, direct a story for Doctor Who in celebration for the 50th anniversary. (IGN) The trio agree with the current Doctor, Matt Smith that getting Peter Jackson on board would be fantastic and that any episodes that he directs would be filmed in New Zealand.

In previous weeks Peter Jackson has declared his desire to direct a Doctor Who episode stating that they wouldn't even need to pay him. (Metro) Peter had previously said that he was a huge fan of the show and that Matt Smith makes a fantastic Doctor.

Its been revealed recently that Jackson had recently met with the showrunner Steven Moffat to discuss the possibility of him running an episode.

McCoy: "He knows what he's doing. If he was in charge of the budget he'd most likely want to film it on the moon and has the ability to do it. If he was using the resources of Weta they would make some amazing magic."

Moffat has made no comment on these rumours.

Jackson joked: ‘They don’t even have to pay me. I have got my eye on one of those nice new gold-coloured Daleks. They must have a spare one!’

Bad Monday? This will make you laugh....

Its Monday booooo, another week!!!

Anyway here is something that will make you laugh and may cheer you up!!! This video was uploaded just 6 days ago and it has so many hits within this short time. Many people will have already seen this, but its worth another watch and for those that haven't seen it, then give it a watch!

Caught On Camera: Car Crashes - The rise of the DashCam!

Over the last few years there has been a very significant rise in the number of onboard DashCams across the world. They first became popular in places such as America in which people would go out and buy these on board Dash Cams that would continuously record their journey on a loop, recording over the previous hour, however if the vehicle is involved in an accident or incident the camera data can be saved so that the event can be seen and shown to insurance companies or in court.

Its only been in the last year or so that the Russians have adopted this idea. With their extremely poor weather and road conditions and with numerous dangerous drivers on the roads the DashCams have become the perfect way to show their insurance companies and police who was to blame during an incident. In fact Russian Courts prefer DashCam footage to eyewitness accounts. In Russia last year there were 200,000 traffic accidents and 28,000 deaths on the roads.

The DashCams are relatively cheap from £30-200 and some cars have numerous cameras around their vehicle but the majority of the time it is the Dashboard footage which is used. The cameras can be used to show Road Rage, Incidents involved with pedestrians and vehicle collisions.

The rise of these DashCams has lead to a worldwide obsession and the amount of videos on sites such as youtube of crashes caught on camera has increased majorly. If you looked on the internet for vehicle collisions caught on camera 2-3 years ago, you would hardly see any videos. Now there are thousands. Some Youtube channels upload at least 4 videos a month containing about 30 incidents within one video lasting around 6 minutes. In the majority of crashes the drivers are unharmed and the videos show the poor road conditions and bad driving judgements but in some videos it could be questioned whether the drivers are seriously injured or killed. The videos however now some have over 3 million hits each.

Below is one of these videos, they are pretty interesting to watch and shows how dangerous it is drive in Russia. The videos come under "Car Crash Compilations.

The use of the DashCams also draws up some surprises, some videos show strange and funny moments. One video shows a tank which is being poorly driven and takes out a lamppost. Others show drivers arguing, police chases and flooding, bad weather and other phenomena such as Meteors! Earlier this year DashCams were the most common footage of the 2013 Chelyabinsk meteor. The position of the vehicles at the time of the meteor and the movement of the meteor across the sky helped scientists create a trajectory and find out where the meteor had come from.

Overall, the videos make for good viewing and the use of DashCams is set to rise!

New song from PSY - Update: Video

So BBC Radio 1 had the first play of the new song from PSY. But is it as big a tune as Gangnam Style?

UPDATE: AND HERE IS THE VIDEO Including the new dance!

Named Gentlemen, I feel the song is not as "World Record Breaking" as the previous, but what song could match that? This song, however, has a pretty catchy tune and I'm sure its going to do pretty well across the World being played over and over again in the clubs!

Hangover Part III New Trailer

A New trailer for Hangover Part III has been released.
The End.

Remember this...? Wacky Races

This weeks Remember this...? looks back at one of my favourite kids TV Shows of all time!
Wacky Races! The cartoon features 11 different cars racing against each other in various races centred around each episode. The show actually was first aired from 1968 to 1969 and despite me seeming to remember many episodes there was only 1 season and 34 short episodes! The characters raced each other and had their own cooky clever ways of getting ahead of each other. The bad guys in the race who always tried to stop the other cars from winning so they could secure their victory, even though the time spent doing so would have seen them win was Dick Dasterdly and his sidekick Muttley.

The show has been repeated many times on Cartoon Network and Boomerang in recent years gaining a much younger audience.

The cars & The Characters

The Mean Machine #00 driven by  Dick Dasterdly and Muttley
The Boulder Mobile #1 driven by the Slag Brothers
Creepy Coupe #2 driven by The Gruesome Twosome
Convert-a-car #3 driven by Professor Pat Pending
Crimson HayBailer #4 driven by The Red Max
Compact Pussycat #5 driven by Penelope Pitstop
Army Surplus Special #6 driven by Sergeant Blast and Private Meekly
Bulletproof Bomb #7 driven by the Ant Hill Mob
Arkansas Chuggabug #8 driven by Luke and Blubber Bear
Turbo Terrific #9 driven by Peter Perfect
Buzzwagon #10 driven by Rufus Ruffcut and Sawtooth

The show was also narrated but did see the characters speak.

There was also numerous video games produced including one I had on ps1 or ps2 which was basically Mario Karting. It was great.

My favourite car was the Army Surplus Special #6
What was yours?!

Here is one of my favourite episodes:

In the 2000s a remake was planned, the pilot of which is below, and is set in the future with Penelope and Peters Children and a few other old characters. Named "Wacky Races Forever" the video is below of the pilot.

The show however was not given the go ahead.

The Goodwood festival of Speed in the UK has real-life sized working replicas of some of the vehicles!!! And how awesome do they look!

It would be awesome if they made a movie, like the Scooby Doo films over the last decade, with real life characters in a race across the US. A little like Rat Race but with the characters we all know and love.

Enjoy the videos!!!

Weekend Weather: Windy, Warmer & Wetter

Finally after a brief period of cooler Easterly winds, once again, we are to get a blast of tropical air and winds from the South! Finally, the Jet Stream has returned to a more normal position and is pushing low pressure systems further north across the UK. Low Pressure, however, means wet weather too! But its not all bad, places across the UK will be glad to see some rain! Gardner's and farmers are really needing wetter weather after a very very dry start to the year. A Low Pressure system will rush across the UK from tonight into tomorrow with heavy rain and showers throughout the day. But winds will come from the south, drawing up warmer air and recovering temperatures.

Over the weekend temperatures will be around 13C across many parts, in those that see some sunshine should see temperatures rise up to 18C! Best locations for sunshine are in the East and South.

There will also be strong winds across the UK, reaching gale force in places however, the wind will feel pleasant as it is coming from the South and not the chilly East!

The Jet stream seems to stay in this position into next week and we will likely see numerous low pressure systems which means rain and wind across the UK at times, separated by warm and dry weather intervals. Best areas, as usual, in the South East!

The Worlds Largest Wind Farm is connected to the grid of the Kent Coast

The London Array, 20km off the coasts of Kent and Essex is made up of 175 turbines and is the largest wind farm in the world. The site generates a massive 630MW of energy, enough to power nearly half a million homes a year. Today marked the day of the last turbine switching on, now reaching full capacity!

There are further phases planned to extend the number of turbines so that over a GW of energy can be produced. The project is funded by DONG Energy, E.ON, and Masdar.

The UK has one of the largest capacity for wind power in the world and has the highest number of planned projects up to 2020.

Imagine Dragons - Its Time

On the 4th Feb I posted about Imagine Dragons song Radioactive which is still bouncing about the charts at the moment and has been used in a number of media including the promotion of "Assassins Creed III" game, and for the film "The Host." The song has actually been around for about a year now but songs from their album Night Visions are working their way up in the iTunes charts with at least 4 within the top 100. This is one of my favourites and is called "Its Time." All their songs on the album are fantastic and I'd definitely recommend a listen! But first listen to this....

So this is where you fell
And I am left to sell
The path to heaven runs through miles of clouded hell
Right to the top
Don't look back
Turning the rags and giving the commodities a rain check

I don't ever wanna let you down
I don't ever wanna leave this town
'Cause after all
This city never sleeps at night

It's time to begin, isn't it?
I get a little bit bigger but then I'll admit
I'm just the same as I was
Now don't you understand
That I'm never changing who I am

Once Upon A Time Season 2! Starts tonight 9pm on 5

It is backkkkkkkkkkk
Finally!
Now this is one of the best shows on TV at the moment and is probably my favourite American drama around this year.

To those that missed the first series, WHERE WERE YOU!!

Well the brief synopsis is that its a Fantasy drama set in a normal American town of Storybrooke. But everything is not normal, the town is filled with Fairytale characters banished to this real-life American town from their Enchanted Land by a powerful curse made by the Evil Queen (Lana Parilla) obtained by Rumplestiltskin (Robert Carlyle). The residents have lived for 28 years in a time-stuck scenario where nobody ages and nothing changes. The residents are unaware of this and are also unaware of who they really are and the time before they were brought to Storybrooke. Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison), the daughter of Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Prince Charming (Josh Dallas), was transported from the fairy tale world before she could be cursed as a baby. As such, she is the only person who can break the curse and restore the characters' lost memories, aided by her son, Henry (Jared S. Gilmore), with whom she has recently reunited (after giving him up for adoption upon his birth), and his book of fairy tales that holds the key to ending the curse.

The Evil Queen is one of only a few that are aware of the curse and known as Regina in this land, is the mayor of the town. She is also the adopted mother of Henry.

Each episode is focused on a characters back story with flashbacks to the time within the Enchanted Land. They show how all the characters are linked together, how they are all part of the curse and how they came about.

At the end of the final episode of season one, Emma managed to break the curse .... and we should find out tonight what has happened.
