Heatwave

Okay as we enter the first day of what is probably the first time, in a long time that we have seen temperatures this high as we enter what could be an extensive "heatwave"!

Now look at this the best weather forecast ever, no?

I would say this year we have been quite lucky, I mean minus all the wintery coldness of Spring as we came closer to summer we haven't been doing toooooo bad. We had two bank holidays in a row which were believe it or not sunny and warm! And look look its happening again...minus the bank holiday but its weekend and its sunny and no no not warm but HOT!

I think its the first time in a long time.... like I don't remember this happening for a few years .... that a  large high pressure has formed above the UK in  the month of July! The last few Julys have been considerably wet so it makes a change, coming into the main summery month, when the sun is overhead for the longest and its sunny. So can it be described as a heatwave and how long will it last.

A heat wave is a prolonged period of excessively hot weather! So maybe this week temperatures may be pushing the high twenties low thirties but is this hot enough to call a heat wave? And will it last long enough?

Well these wonderful high pressures normally block depressions with their rain from coming across the UK and they can last for 2 weeks! So 2 weeks of sun, wouldn't that be wonderful. But its currently uncertain. It will last well into mid week. But any further? and any hotter? Maybe. A heat wave? Maybe not. WE SHALL SEE!

Somewhere which is having a severe heat wave is the US. Intense winds and dry conditions in South Western states are causing huge wild fires. Last week several firefighters were killed after becoming trapped by a wild fire which was travelling at times at 19km/h and has so far raised 3400 hectares of shrubland to the ground.

4th July celebrations yesterday had a ban on fireworks in states such as Colorado and New Mexico.
New Mexico has had the driest 12 months on record with exceptional drought conditions not seen in a century.

And here in the UK we are getting excited for high twenties in the temps but try out these in the US...
In Phoenix, Arizona, the mercury hit 47C, and Death Valley, California, the thermometer topped 51C.

Now that is a scorcher!

Enjoy your summery weekend folks!
