Tokyo 2020: Olympics

So after Rio 2016 the Olympic and Paralympic games have been chosen to be held in the city of Tokyo Japan!

The Japanese Capital were chosen over cities Madrid and Istanbul voted by International Olympic Committee. This is the first time since 1964 since it hosted the last games. It will be the first Asian city to host the games twice! Worries were put forward over the countries vulnerability to natural disasters, with earthquake, tsunami and cyclone damage still seen across many areas along with the crippled nuclear power station.

However, the other potential hosts had problems too. Concerns about political unrest in the country, along with the ongoing conflict in neighbouring Syria were felt. I believe also the fact that a devastating earthquake is long overdue in the capital and will likely happen within the next 8 years before the Olympics. The earthquake would be devastating to a city not prepared for a large earthquake with phenomenal damage. It was Istanbul's 5th consecutive failed bid. Madrid was unsuccessful for the third time after doubts over its economical situation.

So the focus looks to Tokyo after the Rio Games in 2016!
