July Weather Review

What a surprise July was eh?!

3 words to describe it HOT, DRY, SUNNY!

In fact it was the 3rd warmest July on record and the sunniest and driest since 2006 in which we saw a similar weather pattern of dry weather.

On the 22nd of July parts of Britain peaked at 33.5C which is not uncommon but 10C above average! We equalled the record for 19 days in a row in which 28C plus was seen, that made in 1997.

We got 137% of the expected Sunshine

It was a very dry month with many places not seeing rainfall for over 3 weeks. But heavy thunderstorms sparked by the heat and humidity helped out significantly. Britain got 83% of the average rainfall, but parts of Southern England saw its driest spell since 1999. However, luckily due to the wet weather last year there was no hose pipe restrictions put in force as the water stocks is relatively healthy.

Thunderstorms resulted in double the average rainfall in places. Carlisle saw 97.4mm in just 48hours! Most of which fell in just one day!

August started off hot with temperatures reaching their highest, but cooler weather is settling in with heavy and more persistent rain taking control of most of the weather for the next week or so!

So summer may just be back on hold for a little while!
