Coldest spring in 50 years

This spring is set to be the coldest in 50 years, the 5th coldest since records began back in 1910. The average temperature at current is only 6C from 1st March to 28th May, helped by an extremely cold March which saw temperatures colder than some of the winter months. This year the March average temperature was 2.2C which is 3.3C below the average March temperature. Even this month temperatures have been lower than usual with winds coming from a Northerly direction. This Northerly wind and Easterly winds seen through the rest of spring saw temperatures much lower than normal. It is also predicted that despite recent rainfall, this spring is still set to be drier than average, but not as dry as previous springs. 8 out of the past 10 springs have been warmer than average, so this is a rare event especially with how cold temperatures were.

The cold start to the growing season, has seen farmers and gardeners struggle to get things kicked off. With vegetation and crops taking a lot longer to develop and heavy snowfall saw a major loss to lambing stocks across the UK.
