Huge Tornado rips through suburbs of Oklahoma City

A major disaster has been declared in the Oklahoma City after a large tornado has ripped through the suburbs of Oklahoma City, killing at least 91 people including 20 children. It is possible that the number of fatalities will also increase. The Hospitals in the area are said to have been treating a large amount of casualties from injuries created by the storm. There is still a large search and rescue operation underway.

200mph winds had flattened homes and schools in the Moore district, South of the City. It hit at 2.56pm and remained on the ground for around 45 minutes, a long period whilst children were at school. It is likely that this disaster is going to be one of the worst tornado disaster since 1900. 158 people were killed in Missouri on 22nd May 2011 almost 2 years to the day. Meteorologists said there was still a risk of tornados in the area. This is relatively early in the Tornado season but has been a major disaster. Some witnesses say that there were numerous tornados at the time.
